Hard Copy is an ode to the old days.

Before the Internet.
Before Instagram.
Before you were born.

It removes distraction, noise, and comparison.

It holds your attention because you hold it in your hands.

Let me toot my own horn and say, creative copywriting is my JAM. Ironically, I can't think of a better way to say that at the moment. I'm blaming hunger, and the 2000s emo song stuck in my head. Guess you could say I'm actually  "jammin!" See? Creative.
And you're still reading...

Copy tips, tricks, &
 Content prompts galore

While it'd be unfair to compare life's greatest pleasures (like a cat's toe beans, or a midnight Taco Bell run) to short, quick, effective copy prompts & hacks---I can think of a few that are just as good, and I've put them in Hard Copy.

I'll be hosting monthly co-working calls where we can all work through a writing prompt or exercise together, or we could just sit and stare at one another if no one is in a talky mood that day.

Hot Seat calls are exactly what you think they are. Bring a piece of copy you're working on and I'll live edit/critique it. Exclusive to 6-12 month Hard Copy subscribers only.

Monthly co-working & hot seat calls

In addition to the creative copywriting exercises and activities per issue, Hard Copy subscribers can submit 1 Google Doc (2 if you're an annual subscriber) per month for my review. Don't be a Lemon Head though' we're talking normal font, normal size.

To submit copy for feedback, you'll simply log in to your member dashboard and submit via Google Forms and I'll get back to you within 72 hours.

I promoted myself to editor in chief

Hey, I'm Katie Pannell

It suits me, doesn't it?

This is me having a good hair day, posing with my favorite ad of all time.

This was the ad that started it all.

I was a totally normal 11-year-old whose definition of fun was spending HOURS on a computer as wide as it was tall, listening to big band jazz and googling vintage ads.

Somewhere between deciding the ’56 Thunderbird was my favorite car and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” my favorite song, I found this 1943 Gremlin Chasers ad and deemed it my favorite too.

Ironically, the ad that unknowingly inspired my career didn’t have any copy on it… but semantics…

It did, however, have Fifinella—my guardian gremlin.

I was selling pinup calendars at a WWII reenacting event, dressed head to toe in someone else’s grandma’s clothes when she found me. In the plush. My guardian gremlin.

Naturally, she came home with me as a reminder that
a) you never really outgrow your interests,
b) sometimes your career finds you,
And c) that that Lifesavers ad was my very own timeless and timely double entendre.

It was a wink from God (in the form of my guardian gremlin—I just really like saying that, rolls off the tongue) to quit my miserable job, and start my own copywriting business.

And Hard Copy is me throwing you a Lifesaver.

This is your *wink* to write.

P.S.  Hard Copy is  a play on Hard Candy. Ya know, like Lifesavers? Also, it's a physical product. Get it? Hard. Copy.

hard-hitting questions

Where does Hard Copy ship to?
I'm sorta hoping this thing takes off worldwide. Shipping is free for subscribers located in the US. A flat fee ($8) will be added to your subscription if you're located outside the US. **Note: Shipping fees are subject to change at any time, depending on the weight of the issue and changes in post materials.

Part II: Is there a digital version? Nope! That would defeat the purpose of pen to paper hard-copy learning!

I'm  going through withdrawals from the Hard Copy  high... when can I expect to get my issue every month?
Sleep off the sugar-rush, wake up and work through your creative writing exercises again. That should hold you over. But if you must know---issues are shipped the first week of every month so you can expect to receive them by the 2nd week of the month depending on your geographical distance from me.

Will there be a Hard Copy Facebook Group?
HARD NO.
The whole point is to get you to a place where you're 100% confident in your own copywriting abilities. A Facebook group only facilitates comparison and copy cats, IMO. After the first few issues, I'm willing to re-evaluate and we can talk about adding a Slack channel...maybe...

How do I submit things to you? Guest articles?  My copy? A question for the Dear Katie advice column? Details, Katie, Details!
You email them to me until that undoubtedly becomes chaotic and overwhelming, then I'll introduce a more efficient system. But email is good for now---this is new, ya know.

hello@katiepannell.co

Who is Hard Copy for?
Everyone. Not a cop out answer. You'll never be "too good" to stop practicing your writing skills.

Plus... every pricing tier includes personalized feedback so I really can't imagine anyone excluding themselves from that juicy benefit.

When are the monthly Co-Working & Hot  Seat calls?
You'll find the event details in the calendar inside your issue. They'll also be emailed out :)
